Keeping the Body in Mind

Many of us are like neck top computers spending most of our time “in our head” – thinking, analysing, planning, comparing, stressing, etc. etc. and we are hardly aware of our bodies.  Often we only become body aware when we are struck by an injury or illness that disrupts our lives, forcing us to listen to and look after our body.  Also maybe we don’t like certain aspects of our body so there is a tendency to ignore it or tune out to what our body is trying to tell us.

How body aware are we in our daily lives?  How often do we stop and pay attention to our bodies?  If you did what  would you discover?  Maybe you have put on some extra weight or maybe you have pain in  your back and  you don't know how  this has came about.   Often we only become body aware when we are struck by an injury or illness that disrupts our lives, forcing us to listen to and look after our body.  Taking time to listen to our body can prevent us  graduating from minor ailments to injury and illness.

This week in class we are going to take time to mindfully explore our bodies and the way they move.

The  Action for Happiness September Action Calendar theme is Self-care.  Listening to our bodies contributes to Self-care.
